English for Employment
Sponsored by: Ben Franklin Bank and the Polaroid Fund at the Boston Foundation

Outcome:
Students will obtain intermediate or advanced competency in English (based on pre and post testing) with an emphasis on workplace vocabulary and verbal communication.

Services:

  • English Instruction - two nights per week (3 hours) for three 11-week semesters
  • Supportive services — case management, referrals for housing, transportation, child care and other services
  • Cost Per Semester: $40

    Entrance Criteria:
  • Students’ income must be at or below 80% of median income
  • Students must have intermediate or advanced English
  • Students who are not eligible will be referred to other local programs
  • English for Life

    Outcome:
    Students will obtain advanced competency in English conversation (based on pre and post testing) with an emphasis on cultural literacy and engagement in civic issues.

    Services include:
    English Conversation - one night per week (3 hours) for 10 weeks during the summer. 2006 enrollment currently closed.

    Cost: $40

  • Students must be able to demonstrate advanced English skills
  • Students who are not eligible will be referred to other local programs
