Want to see more decent and affordable housing options in Waltham? Join the Action!

Educating our Elected Officials and Ourselves: WATCH members have been busy educating themselves about the best way to talk about affordable housing in order to really explain its importance to our community. They've also been making plans to reach out to their neighbors and City and state officials to build relationships that will enable us, as a community, to get the resources we need to create top quality affordable housing in Waltham. The ultimate goal will be campaigns to get affordable homes created on specific sites.  We need more properties that are made up of homes that the average Waltham family can afford. We've got enough "luxury" housing here!!  We need homes that will let our residents stay in Waltham!

We need to build a base of support for this issue! We need to get more safe and affordable homes for Waltham families! If you're interested in learning more and getting involved, let Anne know so you can join this effort: 781-891-6689 x206.

Tenant Action Group (TAG): So many tenants in Waltham struggle to get their landlord to follow basic laws and provide a safe place to live.  If you have had trouble because your landlord has not responded to your request for repairs, to get your security deposit back or another reason, let us know! Our Housing Clinic can help you resolve an urgen problem, but our Tenant Action Group could use your participation to ensure that we stop irresponsible landlords from behaving this way!    Groups of tenants with the same problem get together to demand that an irresponsible landlord follows the law. Get in touch if you want to help make Waltham's housing safer!

Recently, many tenants have come to WATCH with some problems all having to do with the same landlord.  The Tenant Action Group wants this lanldord to do what's right by his tenants. He has refused to return security deposits to several former tenants and refuses to serious safety hazzards for current tenants. After several months trying to communicate with him via phone and mail to solve the problems the tenants went to the Waltham News Tribune

If you want to join the Friends of TAG, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ! Friends of TAG may be called on at key moments to support the tenants by making a phone call, sending an email or signing a letter of support.  Even if we don't call on you, your name on the TAG Friends list will give the TAG tenants an important feeling of community backing.

WATCH's work to support low-income tenants is supported in part by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Unitarian Universalist Funding Program and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
