Tutoring Program

Serve and Learn - English Tutoring Program

"It's such a unique opportunity...It's rare to find people who give their time so easily to others."

"I'm so happy to continue.  This program helps people."

- participants learning English

The tutoring program is an opportunity for local residents to make a new friend, gain new skills and learn about another culture! No special skills or experience is required beyond the desire to be more involved in your community. Anyone can be a tutor!

After a training and orientation, volunteer tutors are paired with an adult learner in Waltham seeking to improve his or her English speaking and/or writing. Each pair has the opportunity to learn about another culture and to work on specific objectives during the ten-week program.

During the course of the program, Tutors and the adult learners are provided with support and curriculum materials from WATCH staff. At the end of each 10-week session, we throw a party and celebrate our accomplishments to date. Most of our tutors and tutees continue after their first 10 weeks together.
