The Community English program uses authentic materials and contextualized lesson plans to address the specific goals and interests of the adult learners. At the start of each 15-week session, a short needs assessment identifies topics and issues relevant to the class. These topics are woven into the curriculum via field trips, guest presentations and teacher instruction. Previous elements of the curriculum included presentations by immigration attorneys, Housing Clinic staff, Mt Auburn Hospital nurses, and a tour of the Waltham Public Library. Classes are targeted toward beginner and intermediate levels.
Classes are held two evenings evenings a week at WATCH's office on Moody Street in Waltham from 6 - 8:30PM. Sessions cost between $30 and $60 depending on length. Scholarships may be offered to those in greatest need. Participants may also enroll in free computer classes through a partnership with the Charles River Public Internet Center. The Winter-Spring 2012 Session is January 18 to May 9. Please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
