B Street

In 2005 WATCH completed the first affordable housing project done in Belmont in nearly 50 years. WATCH was selected by the Town of Belmont to develop 2 two-family townhouses, totaling four units, of which three would be affordable to first-time homebuyers making less than 80% AMI.  The B Street project was financed by Town of Belmont HOME funds, State HOME funds through the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), and a construction loan provided by the Boston Community Loan Fund.  The project was consistent with DHCD’s smart growth principles, as the buildings are highly energy-efficient, and utilized renewable resources such as bamboo flooring.  The units are located a short walking distance from Waverley Square, which has a variety of stores and services as well as access to transportation.

By June, 2005, the homes were ready for their new owners! Owners were chosen through a lottery system. This was the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 27, 2005.
